Best pass recommend France and switzerland

Hello,

We have a group of Four adults that will be traveling in France from Paris to Grenoble, and after staying there for three days we then travel from Grenoble to Lauterbrunnen Switzerland and spending 5 days in that area sightseeing, and finally back from Lauterbrunnen to Paris. Can anyone recommend best rail pass for this itinerary? Single tickets in France and a Swiss Pass for Switzerland? Or better to rent a car for the entire trip? Thanks!

I don’t know if it is “best”, but I would probably choose point-to-point tickets for France and into Switzerland, and a 6-day Berner Oberland Pass plus Half Fare Card for your time in Lauterbrunnen.

Both your route to Lauterbrunnen from Grenoble and to Paris from there pass through Bern. The Berner Oberland Pass will fully cover your travel from Bern to Lauterbrunnen and back, plus all your boats, trains, and mountain lifts within the BO Pass validity area, EXCEPT for the Schilthorn and the Jungfraujoch which get a reduced fare.

The Half Fare Card will halve the cost of train travel from Geneva to Bern, and from Bern to Basel on your way to Paris, plus any travel you wish to do outside the BO Pass validity zone (Lake Luzern boats, for example). It reduces the cost of the BO Pass by enough to almost cover the HFC coast when you get a 6-day pass, so it is worth including.
