My 17 yr. old daughter and myself are flying in to Zurich on July 17 to meet my husband,who will already be there on business. We are then planning on picking up a rental car, and proceeding on to explore the the French Alps, and the regions of Provence and Dordogne before crossing in to Spain to explore Barcelona and that region. We also are interested in the Basque region. My husband thinks we can do all of this and get the car back to Zurich before we depart on July 30th (with our sanity still intact!). I'm suggesting we drop the car off in Barcelona at the end of the trip and take a train or plane back to Zurich. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

For the drive back to Zurich from Barcelona, you're looking at at least 10-11hrs plus time to stop for food, etc. It's almost 700 miles. One option is to fly on one of the European budget airlines. www.airberlin.com and www.germanwings.com both make the flight to Zurich from Barcelona.
