Best method of getting from Sorrento to FCO

My wife and I will be spending 3 days in Sorrento and trying to determine best way to get back to FCO. Looking at taking the Aliauro ferry from Sorrento to Naples and then the bus from ferry terminal to the train station and then train to FCO. Is this the best solution? Thanks

Hopefully you're not contemplating leaving departing Sorrento and catching a flight from FCO on the same day??? Do-able, yes. But I sure wouldn't do it.

I would think going from Sorrento to Rome Termini and then switching to the FCO train would be best and only involve train stations. In my opinion, taking one form of transportation is more of a direct route than changing between three different ones.

Depends on how you define best. I would just take the train to Naples and skip the bus and ferry unless you want to take the ferry. The train would be quicker. There is a bus that runs a couple time a day between Sorrento and Rome which is convenient if the times match up.

If getting to FCO is your objective, without any time in Rome, I'd at least check out the cost of flying from Naples. You can get a Curreri bus from Sorrento to the Naples airport. Cost is 10 euros, and they run hourly. That way you would change transportation only once.

Trains are the best option, and probably the fastest as well.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I have decided to take the train. We are leaving the day before our flight back to the USA (guess I should have stated that up front).

In that case, I would suggest getting a hotel/B+B close to the Termini train station and do the self guided night walk tour the night before you go home. Then the morning of your flight, you are a quick train ride away from the airport.

Gary, The route you'll need to take if travelling by train is to use the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Napoli Centrale (about an hour), and then Freccia fast train from there to Roma Termini (~1H:10M). Check the Circumvesuviana and Trenitalia websites for departure times and prices. The Freccia has compulsory reservations, which will be included with the ticket. For the trip from Rome to FCO, use the Leonardo Express (35 minutes, €14 PP). DON'T forget to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you may be fined on the spot! Happy travels!
