Best means of transportation: Frankfurt to Rothenburg to Augsburg Germany

We are traveling from Frankfurt to Augsburg but would like to stop one night in Rothenburg. What would be the best means of travel considering time and price?

For price, I don't think you can beat the train. It might take a little longer because the train stops often, but when you get to Frankfurt, you don't have to take time renting the train and when you get to your location, you don't have to find a place to park the train. Plus, there is no liabilty. If the driver dents the locomotive, it doesn't cost you anything.

To go from Frankfurt to Rothenburg, all you need are local tickets to Kahl (€6,95 pP) and one Bayern-Ticket, €28, for up to five people. For Rothenburg to Augsburg, all you need is a Bayern-Ticket.

Ed,

Absolutely, the train is the best choice! As you're travelling from Frankfurt, you may have to change trains in Wurzburg and you'll probably have to change in Steinach. As I recall, the train from Steinach to Rothenburg is on a non-electrified "spur line" so it will probably be a diesel powered engine.

Depending on where you're staying in Rothenburg, you could take a Taxi or walk to your Hotel. I usually choose a Taxi as I'm usually not in the mood to haul my kit any distance.

Happy travels!
