Best Airline to Europe

For those of you who have traveled on several airlines, what would be your recommendation for travel open jaw to Prague and out of Rome - considering service, leg room, and seat size.

I don't think there is a best. You go with what is available at the price you like. Leg room, seat size, etc. is the same. I will pay extra for economy plus on United and understand Delta will have the same soon if not now.

I'd suggest that you use a website like kayak.com to see what airlines offer the best routes and prices for your journey. Personally, I find the duration of the journey and the connecting details to be the most important factors in flight comfort. Once you have narrowed it down to the reasonable options, then I'd suggest you post back for opinions on those particular choices.

Since you mention service and comfort, not price, I 'll just point out OpenSkies, an all-business class airline that flies between New York or Washington DC and Paris. You'd have to book the Rome and Prague flights separately , so that may not be worth the trouble

Airlines use different planes on different routes, so what might be the best flight from my city to Rome but not be the best from your city. Airlines offer different routes from each city, too, so a while I might have a nonstop route to Rome (which is always best IMO) you might not. So, you need to ask other Houston folks.

Thanks for the input. Guess I will just choose best price and schedule.

There is no one best airline. But seatguru.com can give you details on leg room and seat size in particularly flights. My advice is start by finding the fastest flights (as personally I would rather have a direct 6 hour flight in the most cramped of conditions than an 12 hour journey with 3 connection going first class the the entire way) As others have mentioned total travel time is the biggest factor for comfort. Then check out seat guru for seat size and leg room for those particular flights. Then with flight time, amount of room and price you can judge for yourself what is worth the best. I might be willing to for 30 mins longer for a few more inches of leg room or a seat that reclines more, etc. BTW - Delta is the only airline that has direct flights from the USA to both cities, so they are probably a good place to start. Continental should probably be another airline to check as they use Houston as a hub and might have a direct flight from Rome. Ideally if you can get a direct flight from Rome to Houston and one change of planes getting to Prague (direct is not possible) that will yield you the most comfortable flight possible.

Any flight that gets you there on time safely, is a good airline in my book. Economy flights are the true socialism of the age, everyone suffers equally - regardless of which airline you choose. While I agree there is no one best airline, there is IMO a worst airline. Normally I'll purchase based on price and schedule with one caveat - I will actively avoid Alitalia. I have heard so many horror stories unique to Alitalia that it's highly unlikely I would ever choose them.
