Travelling LONDON PARIS in Oct onTGV. Who is best to get tickets before I go? Also, is Paris Museum Pass cheapest through them or in Paris? What about London Travel Card? Used Oyster Card last time and Carte Orange in Paris. Are these still the cheapest and easiest way to go?
As ken mentioned, you're not travel TGV from London to Paris but on the Eurostar. You can buy your Eurostar tickets directly from the Eurostar website. Don't wait until you get to London as the seats are cheaper the further out you buy them.
Eurostar
Do not use Rail Europe as they add on surcharges.
ED,
Regarding your questions:
1.) You'll be travelling on the EuroStar from London (St. Pancras) to Paris (Gare du Nord). I'd probably just buy tickets after arrival in London, but hopefully someone in the group will have information on where you could order these.
2.) You can obtain a Paris Museum Pass easily when in Paris. Check their website for sales locations. If you buy this at one of the smaller Museums, there won't be as much of a problem with large queues. It would likely be more expensive to pre-purchase this, as you'd be paying for shipping.
3.) Check the England Guidebook for the benefits of the London TravelCard vs. the Oyster Card. Rick has a fairly concise comparison of the two. I used an Oyster Card on my last visit, and will probably use that again in future (I still have some funds left on it).
4.) I normally use a Carnet of 10 tickets when in Paris. Which Pass to use will depend on how much & where you plan on travelling. Check the France Guidebook, as there's good information there on the benefits of each Pass.
Happy travels!
If you register as a resident of the UK at www.eurostar.com and book ASAP, you can get a single (one-way) fare as low as £35 for a non-refundable, non-exchangeable ticket. If you wait until you get to London, you will pay well over £100. For example, the cheapest ticket for any departure time tomorrow is £135.
Are you traveling alone or with someone? How many days will you be in London? How many days--and which days of the week--will you be in Paris?
