Hi,
I have 1st class reservation for Bernina express in April. I now need to buy train tickets for that day's trip. Can you buy 2nd class train tickets and still travel with my 1st class reservation on Bernina express? Or do I need to buy 1st class train tickets as well? There is a fairly large cost difference between those tickets.

You need to have a First Class ticket in order to use your reserved seat in First Class. Otherwise the conductor will ask you to move to the 2d class car, or pay the supplement and perhaps a penalty.

To save money, look at buying a 1st class Saver Day Pass for your date. If it is a couple months from now, you should be able to get it for 88 CHF without the Half Fare Card.
