Berlin train to Rostock Hbf, walk to Flixbus, it taking the ferry to Gedser then to Copenhagen?

I see the Rostock Hbf on google maps, and I see the Flix Bus stop just on the other side of the tracks. But it looks a very long way if you must stay on the roads, like a car. Google Directions for Walking show me just walking across the tracks 100 meters to the bus stop. I see no indication there is a walkway between them. Is there an unseen tunnel or is it legal to walk across them over the bus stop? I realize that is very close to the end of that line and the trains are probably few and far between. -Bill

We would like to split up the long ride from Berlin to Copenhagen by taking a ferry over. On the way back from Copenhagen we would take the train all the way to Hamburg.

Look closely on google maps and you will see an underground passageway connecting the south city station entrance and the north city station entrance and all of the tracks. Station plan is at www.bahnhof.de

I'm a bit confused as Flixbus don't seem to use the Rostock to Gedser route. Time was when this was a regular train ferry route from Germany to Denmark, but not now.

The Gedser ferrry runs from Rostock Seehafen (a few miles away across the river)- the easiest way there now from the HbF is a taxi- there are rail/bus routes but they are a bit convoluted.

On the Danish side Gedser station has been closed since 2009 . It is a bus part of the way- as far as I know that doesn't stop at the ferry terminal. Overall this is an unusual route to Denmark by public transport nowadays.

Gedser was the first place which German troops landed to occupy Denmark in WW2. There is now a vintage railway which runs on certain summer days from Gedser to Nykøbing- but not of much practical use as through transport.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something..

If it runs that way on your day fine- it looks like London to Paris where the route is different every day. On looking at a lot of dates some days the route is Hamburg (change) then the land border at Flensburg, some days on the shorter Puttgarden to Rødby ferry, some on an unspecified ferry (might be either) and after some digging some days on the Gedser ferry.
You must have found a day it is routing via Gedser.

The schedule says it runs 3 times a day, 7 days a week thru Gedser. But I really only needed to know how to get over to that side of the tracks and the train station map showed me there is a walkway that goes under the tracks. So we are good! -Bill

Rostock - Gedser is a very useful and good connection. I used it a few times with my own car an liked it.

How to approach the ferry terminal is well described on this web page of Rostock port. See approach by public transport.

A better map of Rostock staton.

Why don't you take the Flixbus from Berlin to Copenhagen directly?

Why don't you take the Flixbus from Berlin to Copenhagen directly?

We are using Eurail Passes for this trip. And when I think of riding a bus, that Weird Al Yankovich song starts playing in my head. We will be riding one from Zagreb to Budapest earlier in the trip as the only quick train gets into budapest after 11pm and since we've never been there before that's a non starter.. Bill

PS. Thanks for that map.
