What is best way to travel from Berlin Airport to Warnemunde cruise port. We want to spend a few days in Berlin but don't know how to get down to Warnemunde. We've been to Rostock-Warnemunde return and found train travel great! BTW lots to do in Rostock, a great little town. Just not sure about going to the cruise port from Berlin Airport with luggage. we are taking a cruise out of Warnemunde in early Sept. 2013. Thx
I'd probably take a taxi to the main station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof), then a train to Warnemunde. Here's Rick's tutorial on how to find schedules and prices for trains in Germany: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/db_tips.htm In addition to any replies you get here, be sure to look at Cruise Critic. Here's their Northern Europe and the Baltics Ports Forum: http://tinyurl.com/by57g9z And here are their Roll Calls, where you can sign up for your specific sailing. If you don't want to take the train, you can arrange to split a private transfer with other passengers on your sailing: http://tinyurl.com/ap7h55m
Hi, If you want to go by public transportation, take the TXL bus from Tegel to Berlin Hbf. (central station). Then take the regional train (RB) from Berlin Hbf to Rostock Hbf. Unlike Rostock Hbf Berlin Hbf doesn't have coin lockers, only a left luggage facility called Gepäck Center located next to the WC facility Rail and Fresh. (That Rostock Hbf strikes me as strange because of the numerous stairs, didn't seen like that with other Hbf.) At Rostock Hbf. you can catch the S-Bahn to Warnemünde. To go from Berlin to Warnemünde you have to go through Rostock Hbf. This is the least pricey way provided you're not encumbered with luggage.
The Warnemünde cruise port are along the last two stations of the Rostock to Warnemünde S-Bahn. Usually the walk from the terminal station in Warnemünde port is shorter to most of the vessels than from the stop before ("Warnemünde Werft") There is a direct InterConnex train (which you can only book on www.interconnex.com) from Berlin Hbf to Warnemünde. Journey time is 2:50 hours. The alternative DB German rail connections is regional train from Berlin Hbf to Rostock Hbf, then S-Bahn to Warnemünde. Total journey time depends on the actual connection but is from 3:10 hours. From Berlin Schönefeld Airport there are direct trains to Berlin Hbf. From Berlin Tegel airport take bus "TXL" to Hbf (€2.40 one-way at the moment).
