We'll be flying into Tegel airport, arriving 8:00, and need to transfer to Amsterdam right away (long story involving bad planning on my part). I've already searched for possible flights onward to Amsterdam, and concluded that it's not worth several hundred dollars to arrive a few hours earlier. So we'll be taking the train from Spandau. My questions: How much will a taxi cost from Tegel to Spandau Station? Any tips I should be aware of to avoid cabbie rip-offs? How long will it take from plane to train? Am I crazy to think we could be on a train an hour after landing? We'll have carry-on baggage only. Thanks!
might make more sense just to take public transit from tegel to spandau, the taxi would be very expensive. but also why spandau? all the trains to amsterdam will go through the berlin hauptbahnhof (main train station) which is more convenient to tegel than spandau. according to BGV.de (the berlin transit network website) there is a direct bus from Tegel to the Berlin Hbf, it takes 20 minutes. it is possible to make the connection in an hour, then, particularly if you have only carry on luggage, and have your tickets already printed out from home. on weekdays during the day it looks like the buses leave every 6-7 minutes so yeah, it's doable.
Hi, As pointed out there is no need for a taxi, a bus from Tegel to Berlin Hbf. (used to be called Flughafenbus) is available. That bus is the TXL, stops at Hbf on Invalidenstraße...it's where all the food stands and food vendors are, ie. across from the Hbf. Trains going to Amsterdam start/stop at Berlin Hbf. Why Spandau? You're sure the Berlin-Amsterdam train stops at Spandau? Anyway, to get to Spandau from Hbf. you can take the S-75, the terminus is Spandau
I just checked...yes, it does. From Berlin Hbf the next stop is Spandau. Still, Sarah's comments are valid on Spandau.
