I'll be on one of Berlin, Prague, Vienna tours this fall. I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat as I've only traveled to the UK and Ireland before (with others) and am nervous about getting (by myself) from the airport to the hotel. Has anyone used taxis in Berlin before and if so, will you please share with me your experience, positive or negative? I know there are cheaper ways to get to the city but a cab is the most direct. Thanks in advance!
I visited Berlin in late winter '05. If you're flying out of Berlin Tegel airport, I wouldn't take anything but a cab. It's only 8 km from the center of Berlin; a cab doesn't cost that much. We actually took a bus from the airport and then walked to the hotel. However, for an early morning departure or if you're unsure of where you're going, you can't beat the convenience of a cab.
I'm so glad for your post Karen. I could be going to Berlin, but not sure where I'm going yet. Just trying to decide. But if I do go to Berlin, I will take a taxi. So much easier, and glad it's cheap. Like you, I live in Austin! I would never take a taxi in Austin! Not cheap here!
