After booking flights on United using MileagePlus points, has anyone been able to cancel and then rebook the same flights without fees or problems when the required points decreased and banked the difference in points, or cancelled the flights and rebooked other flights with fewer points, while banking the difference in points (all 91 days or more before departure)? Thanks.
Beware that you only would have to pay a change fee if you try to cancel within 30 days of the flight.
Yes and yes. I just did that with MileagePlus points 50 days before departure. No problems, no fees, points immediately redeposited back into my account. I did both scenarios you mentioned.
I tried doing this once and the substitute flights offered were not nearly as good as the original ones I booked-long layovers, more stops. I kept what I had.
A few weeks ago I changed a domestic flight that I had booked with points. There was no charge and since the new flight was fewer miles they redeposited the miles. YMMV
Thanks, all.
