Bavaria to Swiss Alps?

I'm in the planning stages and would like to spend time in Munich, Bavaria, and the Swiss Alps. Does anyone have a recommended train route from Bavaria to the Berner Oberland? We're looking to stay in the Fussen/Reutte/Innsbruck area.

I like the Swiss rail site www.rail.ch for planning purposes---it is simpler and easier to navigate than bahn.de (fewer options to fill in for basic route planning purposes).

Your trip will be an easier one from Innsbruck than from Reutte, if you have a choice in that. Innsbruck to Lauterbrunnen is a 6-hour trip with 3 train changes; Reutte to Lauterbrunnen is 8 to 8.5 hours with 5 to 8 changes.

You can reduce the number of changes, but add an hour of travel time, by going from Reutte to Innsbruck to Lauterbrunnen, or via Ulm and Basel, instead of following the routing through Lindau, St. Gallen, etc.

I was just at the hotel in Reutte - the farm B&B that rick recommends "Gutshoff zum Schlucht" I belive it is. Take a taxi if they cant pick you up - its about 10 min outside of train station. But its great since right behind is the trail that you take to the Castles over the border. A wonderful walk on the trail and back. You can rent bikes too but they are a bit heavy - better to walk back to the castles.!

There is a EuroCity train leaving Munich at 12:34, going directly to Zurich, arriving at 16:44. From there you take a couple of ICs to Interlaken Ost via Bern, arriving in Interlaken Ost at 18:57. The local train (ticket extra) will get you to Lauterbrunnen at 19:25. Total time of the trip, 6h51m. You can get a ticket for the Munich to Interlaken part of this trip (if you book soon enough) for €39 from from the German Rail website.

I also see a discounted package (Europa-Spezial Schweiz ticket) from Munich (10:23) all the way through to Lauterbrunnen (18:25, 8h02m, via Ulm, and Basel. It's a little slower, but the ticket covers the trip from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen. However, the lowest fare I could find, 92 days out, was €59.

I'm really afraid that Zum Schluxen is only viable for bus/auto trips, as I can find no public transportation to it. Pfronten, just up the rail line from Reutte, is a much nicer town. I spent two night there in September. There are frequent half hour bus trips from Pfronten to the Füssen Hbf and buses from there to the castles.
