Hi i´m planning a backpacking trip and i´m looking for opinions about a part of my schedule. I would arrive Munich in the morning i´ll stay there all day at night i´ll catch a flight to Moscow spend there 2 days and on the third i´ll take an aeroflot flight to St. Petersburg, I´ll stay there the rest of the day and the next one unitl 17:00 when my flight leaves from St. Petesburg back to Munich, when i arrive to Munich either i´ll spend the night there or leave to Fussen the next day i´ll spend it in Fussen at night i´ll go back to Munich and to Wurzburg that same night or the next morning, all day there and at night to either Zurich or Lucern, i´ll stay there the next day, the next one to Interlaken, and the last one to Montreaux to Chteau de chillon going through Geneva. I´d like to know what you think and what changes should i make, particulary where it would be better to spend the nights.
Thanks!
I think you are see a lot of planes and trains on this trip. IMHO you will be spending way too much of your time traveling from place to place and not nearly enough time seeing sites. If you factor in the time to get to the airport, hang around until your flight, the actual flight time, getting out of the airport, finding the place you are staying and checking in, that could eat up the better part of a day. I would try to cut the number of cities in half so you will have more time to enjoy the places you are going.
I agree that you are spending too much time traveling and not much time at all at the places you traveled all that long to see. Is this your first trip to Europe??? With this schedule, it will probably be your last (you won't ever want to do this again).
I assume you are arriving in the morning in Munich from the US. You will be very tired and jet-lagged. You're expecting to stay up all day and take a night flight to Moscow? You'll probably spend the two days in Moscow recovering.
Looks like you are planning to go through Munich at least 3 times without really seeing anything.
I'd say to slow down and smell the roses.
No i´ll arrive to Munich from Venice, this is just part of the trip, the one that i´m not too sure about, so jet lag won´t be a problem.
What would you suggest i skip (preferably not russia). I could maybe put one more day to this part of the trip, so it would be 11 days instead of 10
What is your nationality? If you need a visa to enter Russia, have you even looked into the process? It's really really not worth the trouble or money to spend only 3-4 days in the country.
Furthermore, you will not actually have more than a few hours to do anything in Moscow on your current schedule. Sheremetyevo airport is not that close to the city, and with the traffic, it will take you a long time to get to/from there. This is on top of all the time you'll spend in the airport with international travel.
With only 10-11 days, you have to either focus on Russia or cut it out entirely.
I have dual citizenship, one of them is from Argentina which doesn´t require visa to enter Russia. My flight doesn´t arrive at Sheremetyevo, it arrives at Domodedovo, which i´d been told it´s a considerably more efficient airport, and given the hour i´ll arrive everyone told me it won´t be more than 30 minutes at the airport and another 30-40 to get to the city. I´ll only be at Sheremetyevo to take the flight to St. Petersburg, cause my flight back to Munich leaves from Pulkovo airport. Like i said before is not that i only have 10-11 days, this is just part of the trip, the entire trip will be 2 months, i chose to put Russia here because flights from Munich are cheaper than from anywhere else, and with Lufthansa i´ll arrive at Moscow and leave from St. Petersburg
Domodedovo isn't much closer to the city, unless you are staying on the southern outskirts. And again, traffic in Moscow is atrocious (I'm from Moscow, plenty of first-hand experience), so 30 minutes is a very generous estimate, unless maybe you are flying in in the middle of the night.
And regardless of where else you are travelling and how long you'll be there, your original post describes a 10-11 day itinerary that includes Russia, Germany and Switzerland and it's still not enough time to really visit all those places. Like I said earlier, unless you want to spend more time in transit than actually in these cities, either go to Russia only or go the Germany/Switzerland route. Or maybe just do Moscow and Munich. Of course, it's all up to you in the end, but you asked for opinions and mine is still the same.
