Bavaria Lander Ticket - ASAP

I'm in Munchen right now and planning to go to Fussen tomorrow and just want to make sure I have this right..

If in the morning I buy a ticket from Munich - Buchloe and a Lander card... can I get on the train at 8:53, arriving in Buchloe after 9, and then use my lander card for the rest of the journey? Or do I need to get off and get a separate ticket?

I hope that makes sense. I guess what I am wondering is if you have the Lander ticket, do you need to actually get a physical ticket to get on the trains at a certain time or do you just get on when you please (after 9 am of course..)

Thanks!

Jesse, no need to get off in Buchloe to get a separate ticket. The Bayern-Ticket you are getting in Munich is all you need to ride on any train after 9 AM.

I assume you're by yourself. You will need a Bayern-Ticket Single for €20. Push the button for Bayern-Ticket. Do not push "Regio-Ticket Bayern"; that is something else. The display will give you a choice between Bayern-Ticket (2-5 P), Bayern-Ticket Single, and Bayern-Ticket Nacht (night). Make sure you "sign" the ticket in block letters.

BTW, you don't need to purchase a ticket all the way to Buchloe (€11,50). That train stops in Geltendorf, still in the MVV at 9:20. An MVV 3 zone, Single-trip ticket (Einzelfahrkarte) for €7,20 will cover you to Geltendorf; the Bayern-Ticket will be valid from there.

The train leaves Pasing at 8:59. One minute later would have saved you €4,80; you would only have needed a €2,40 1 zone ticket.

Jesse, exactly what does ASAP mean to you? When did you post this question? Did you see our answers. I obviously saw his question just after 9 PM German time, and replied immediately, but there is no indication that you saw it.

The point here is that, although a Bayern-Ticket is valid for transport after 9 AM, you can leave Munich before 9 AM as long as you purchase a point-point ticket from, say, Munich, to the first stop after 9 AM.

In this case, the 8:52 train leaves Munich Hbf before 9 AM, but stops in Geltendorf at 9:21.

So, if you buy a Bayern-Ticket for travel after 9 AM, and an MVV single trip ticket from Munich Hbf to Geltendorf at 9:20, you will be covered the entire way to Fuessen.

Thank you for all the information Lee. All I meant by asap was I was looking for a quick answer as soon as possible because I was going the next morning. But it turns out it is raining all day in Fussen tomorrow so it looks like we'll be waiting until another day to go.

Either way, thank you very much.

For more details on how to get to Füssen, you might want to read my webpage on Getting to Füssen and the Castles. (Note the last paragraph under item 1.)

BTW, the train leaves at 8:52, not 8:53, but you wouldn't be cutting it that close.
