I am attempting to reserve tickets for rail travel between Bath and London for Sept 4; it appears that there are no tickets available till later afternoon. Will seats open up on a later date or should I look for alternate travel?
Very strange....but you're right. There is a 7:55 AM train. I wonder what's going on in Western England/Wales that weekend? I checked the following weekend and the schedule is wide open.
While I'm not 100% certain this applies to your journey, there appears to be some sort track work being done on 9/4 which effects some or all(?) trains using Bath-Spa Station: "...Sunday The following alterations will apply: * Buses replace trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Trowbridge but will not call at Freshford and Avoncliff. Customers for Freshford and Avoncliff should change at Bradford-on-Avon for a bus connection to Freshford and Avoncliff. * Trains will be diverted between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads and will no longer call at Chippenham and Bath Spa. A connecting bus service will run between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads calling at Chippenham and Bath Spa. Replacement buses will use the bus station and not the railway station at Bath Spa. * 17:07 Weston-super Mere to Weymouth is replaced by bus between Bristol Temple Meads and Westbury. * 08:11 Weston-super-Mere will depart Weston-super-Mere at the earlier time of 08:08 * 17:10 Westbury to Swindon will no run. * 18:19 Swindon to Westbury will not run. * 22:00 Cardiff Central to Warminster is replaced by bus between Bristol Temple Meads and Warminster. The following services will call additionally at Chippenham: * 08:30 Exeter St Davids to London Paddington. * 08:35 Penzance to London Paddington * 08:40 Plymouth to London Paddington * 09:47 Penzance to London Paddington * 11:30 London Paddington to Penzance. * 12:30 London Paddington to Penzance. * 13:30 London Paddington to Plymouth...."
Thanks so much. I was not aware of the track work. We will need to find alternate travel to London. Looks like we should be able to take the bus to a nearby station for re-route. I appreciate the update thanks
pat, You might want to consider using National Express Coach from London Victoria Coach station (which is very near the train station) to Bath Spa. The trip is very quick and from what I remember not much different than travel by train. If there are disruptions to the rail system, it might be a good idea to book a Coach ticket online, as I'm sure they'll be busy. Cheers!
