Bath to Bristol for early morning flight to France

I am considering a flight leaving from Bristol Airport at 7:00 AM to Nice ( Easy Jet)...have reservations in Bath the night before near the train station-I think there are very early morning trains leaving from Bath/which you need to transfer to a bus and then onward to the airport-( descriptions all in Rick's Great Britain book), but is it better to just book an early morning taxi or airport service ? Has anyone used such a service recently, and what about cost, and I am wondering about safe arrival time at the airport ? I think there is a train leaving bath as early as 2:30/4:30 AM-and how much time should a person allow using the train/bus combination to get to the airport ? Thanks, Mary

In your circumstance, I would book a car. Although the train might be OK, there are too many possibilities for delay. The train/bus route would take longer, which would mean getting out of bed even earlier. There are two sorts of taxi in cities like Bath. Some are allowed to park on the street in designated places to be available to any likely passengers. What you want is a private hire car, which can be booked in advance. The Bath private hire car operators will all be used to taking people to Bristol airport and will know how long it takes at a particular time of day. If you are staying at a hotel or B & B, they should be able to recommend a reliable company, but it will be best to book in good time. I Googled "Bath airport taxis" and found a price of £45 quoted.

Mary, One other option you could consider would be to travel via National Express Coach from Bath Spa to London Gatwick (time 4H:15M, one change at LHR, current fare £28.60). If you took the departure at 04:30, you'd arrive at Gatwick at 08:45. From Gatwick there's an EasyJet flight departing at 11:35, arriving in Nice at 14:35 (current fare £35.99). There are also flights from Luton and Stanstead. National Express also operates a route to Bristol Airport, but unfortunately it looks like the only departure times available from Bath are 01:40 (arriving 02:20) and 08:47 (arriving 10:47). The latter departure wouldn't allow you to connect with the EasyJet flight. Good luck and happy travels!
