Basil to naples by train.

Will be traveling from Basel Switzerland to Naples by train in early November. I know someone here will make it easy on me and tell me best trains to take..looking for speed but would also love thr Switzerland part to be scenic.the least amount of transfers the better and we are not concerned with cost. Not wanting to go by plane. I think it's Basil to Milan. Then Milan to Rome and then To Naples.
Thanks in advance.

It's very easy and can be done with one change in Milan. But if you want the Swiss part to be scenic, you want a slower route over the Alps and not a tunnel under them. And then it becomes tricky to do in a single day.

Although they can't sell tickets (as no part of the trip is in Germany)- the best way to plan such a journey is on the Deutsche Bahn website- https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/dn?ld=43139&protocol=https:&seqnr=13&ident=o2.010481139.1685300265&rt=1&rememberSortType=minDeparture&REQ0HafasScrollDir=1&lastConId=C12-2#hfsseq14|o2.010481139.1685300265

There are quite a few 2 change journeys (generally at Zurich and Milan) but at 1103 there is a one change journey- at Milan (a 20 minute connection) arriving at Naples at 2103.

There is another 11:03am with one change in Milan and onto Naples. The big question is, do you really want to do this trip in a 10 hour train ride in one day? Any interest in Milan as a halfway point for a day to split up the trip?

Thanks all. Yes, I realize it will be a long day but we don't mind that and our time is limited so want to get to Naples that day. But in a perfect (retired) world we would do sn over night. Not there yet. Thanks all.

There is a 10:28 am departure from Basel SBB, arriving Milano Centrale at 2:40 pm connecting to a 3:10 pm departure, arriving Napoli Centrale at 8:10pm. Trenitalia is selling tickets for 2 people for 175 EUR now for an early November weekday.

Trying to make anything scenic out of this will add time and get you into Naples late at night.

I've done 2 of the Swiss scenic train rides. They are spectacular. That said, there wasn't anything I saw in Switzerland that wasn't scenic. I think you will enjoy any train ride thru Switzerland.

While the fast trains use a lot of new infrastructure in Switzerland there are still some scenic part.s
The 10:28 from Basle to Milan goes via the Lötschberg and Simplon routes. So you will see a bit of Lake Thun on the way, and then in Italy you will get a view of Lago Maggiore. Sit on the left hand side.

The 11:03 goes via the Gotthard route, so you will see some of Lake Luzern, then go through the longest railway tunnel in the world, but around Lugano there are again some scenic parts.

Its a pleasant trip, on good trains.

Note: You can book this both on www.sbb.ch and www.trenitalia.com. In each cases you will be the same trains though.

Note about terminology: You have not booked a train "with one stop". The train will have multiple stops between Basel and Milan, and multipler stops as well between Milan and Naples. Trains over such distances are rarely non stop. You have one transfer in Milan.
