Basel train station connections

IS 7 minutes enough in basel train station to transfer from one train to another? The route is Interlaken to paris via Basel with 7 minutes in between trains. This is the last train of the day. I am hoping that Swiss trains run on time, however, is there enough time to transfer between the trains. Thanks

If its the 1606 Interlaken to Basel connecting to the 1802 TGV at Basel you will see on the DB website that TGV arrives half an hour earlier from Zurich and it is then just across the platform from your train 11 to 10.

Seven minutes is enough time.... Swiss trains run like clock work. If it makes you more comfortable, simply take an earlier train out of Interlaken. There are usually direct trains to Basel every 30 minutes or so. Check schedules at rail.ch

Basel is slightly more complicated than other stations if you are travelling between Switzerland and France, as there is an actual frontier crossing within the station. I passed through there going from France to Switzerland about four years ago and had to go through a very formal border crossing which would have definitely ruined a seven minute connection. Since then Switzerland has joined the Schengen Agreement which means that it might be more rapid, but I've been formally passport-checked when changing trains at border rail stations before between Schengen Agreement countries despite the Agreement. Has anyone else here passed through Basel more recently on an international journey?

The European Union started with a trade agreement that essentially did away with customs between member countries. Switzerland is not a member country of the EU. Therefore, it is theoretically possible, although highly improbable, that you might be asked to go through a customs inspection. Prior to Schengen, I crossed international borders multiple times without ever having a customs inspection. Since Schengen, I have entered the Zone another 8 times, and changed Schengen coutries 6 times without without an inspection.

You should have no problem making the connection. We went through Basel going the other direction (Interlaken to Paris) in August. The Swiss trains really do run right on time and it will be easy to get to your platform.
