Barcelona to Rome with fun in-between. Help needed!

Hello Community, I am planning my honeymoon. We will be in Europe from Sept.2nd to Sept.15th. We are flying into Barcelona and flying out of Rome. We plan on staying between 3-4 night in those 2 destination points. What I need help with is traveling from Barcelona to Rome. We are thinking the train and want to enjoy stops in-between. What are some great spots to stay the night and see the sights between Barcelona and Rome via the train?? We enjoy food, wine and seeing the sights. Thanks!

Well, you have 1500km of Mediterranean coast over there to cover, you could spend a whole year stopping at interesting places. If your intention is only getting between both cities, a flight is the way to go, period. Discarding your arrival and departure days, you will ahve only 12 full days in Europe. If you stay a minimum of 4 nights on each one, you will have only 4 extra nights left. I'd not burn one-and-a-half of those days in multiple train connections. What I would do in your place is stick to both cities only, and take some day-trips by train out of them (much less stressful than changing hotels every other night). If you want a third place to stop by, Nice might be a good stop. Or maybe the famous Cinque Terre, for a small-town experience. Maybe you can take a flight to Swtizerland and spend 3 nights in a mountain area to give you a completely different experience than the buzz of Barcelona and Rome. You could stay in some village in Provence and rent a car for some sightseeing. The possibilities are endless. However, I repeat, both cities (Barcelona and Roma) have things that can keep your entertained enough for 5-6 days each.

Years ago (many years!) I took the train from Naples to near Barcelona. Along the way, the South of France looked really nice. So I'd suggest a stop somewhere there; maybe Nice.
Have a great trip!

You have 13 nights, so if you spend 3 nights each innBarcelona and Rome, that leaves 7 for the journey. The route generally goes Barcelona to Marseille or Montpelier, to Nice, Genoa, down the Ligurian coast to La Speziaat, and then to Rome. Barcelona to either Montpelieror Marseille is a long stretch, about 8 hours,,so maybe someone can suggest a nice place to stop for an overnight in between. Figueres? Then you would have one night there, two at Nice ( or Antibes) on the French Riviera, three for the Ligurian coat ( Cinque Terre?) and one more to add somewhere ( Barcelona or the French Riviera would be my choice). That sounds like a nice honeymoon to me.
