I am looking for the best possible option to go from Barcelona to Italy. In Italy, my fiance and I are planning on going to Venice, Florence, and Rome. If I take the train, is it easier to buy a ticket now or in Barcelona? If I fly would I be looking at Easyjet or ryanair? How is ryanair now that they charge to use the bathroom? :p Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You can take a night train from Barcelona Franca to Milano Centrale and a regular train from there to either Roma Termini or Venezia Santa Lucia.
For detailed timetables go to the German Rail site. New timetables will go into effect on 13 June and Trenitalia (Italian National Rail) hasn't loaded theirs yet. Until they do, the German Rail site can't show them. Enter a date before 13 June to get complete current timetables. After you get summary timetables for point A to point B, click on the arrow to the left of the departure time(s) of your choice to see the connecting points.
EasyJet has no routes from Barcelona to anywhere in Italy.
Vueling flies BCN-FCO and BCN-VCE.
Ryanair flies from Girona (well outside Barcelona) to Ciampino (well outside Rome) and from Girona to Treviso (well outside Venice). There are no budget airlines that serve Florence. I believe that Ryanair has not actually initiated a fee for using the restroom, but they've been considering doing so.l
I have been looking into a train in the opposite direction....from Milan to Barcelona for the end of July.
I haven't had much luck as it seems to say that there are too many connections (per raileurope.ca). I could be entering in wrong info as well.
If I see anything in my searches I will post what I find.
I just answered my own question...the night train between Barcelona and Milan runs every other night.
