Barcelona to Figueres via Girona

There are many day tours costing about $100.00 . We would like to make this trip ourselves but using the Renfe site and searching the web I have not found any information about how to take the train from Barcelona, stop for a few hours in Girona, then train on to Figueres to the Dali Theatre Museum. Has anyone done this?

Have not taken the train, but did it on a tour group bus several years ago...check the auto rental places and the maps...go for it! Also, look for Cape De Rogue, on the coast, fantastic gardens! and off the tourist track as well....plan to stay overnight somewhere along the way,...and enjoy it more!!!

We did this last year and bought our tickets Barcelona to Girona, Girona to Figueres and Figueres to Barcelona .The price was the same as a RT Barcelona to Figueres and we were told not to do RT Barcelona to Figueres and just get off in Girona because it would invalidate our tickets. There is no need to pre-purchase and you do not have to specify times so you can stay or leave whenever. The price at that time was 18.80. Train ride was fine but keep your tickets handy as we had ours checked several times.

Thanks, Leslie: That is exactly the info I was looking for. If you have any other info about this trip that would be helpful. For example, how early to go, how much time is needed for each place, etc. Also, do you buy the tickets at a particular station in Barcelona?
Thanks for any more light you can shed. Susan

We bought our tickets at Passeig de Gràcia train station the morning we were going - there are hourly trains starting I believe at 6 am. It is about an hour to Girona and another half to Figueres In Girona, the walk into town in about 15 minutes but you can also take the bus or taxi from the station. We were mostly there to see the Cathedral. In Figueres, it is a short walk to the Dali Museum, just follow the crowd. It was a long day, and we probably tried to do too much but they were two places we wanted to see and we enjoyed it. We had a quick bite in Figueres at a bakery just before the Museum but had to be back in Barcelona for dinner with friends so I can't help you on any place to eat.
