Not a question, but the Bahn website calendar now goes beyond December 10, so those of you who wanted to book Sparpreis tickets for Christmas, get them before the Germans do. Note, the Italians haven't quite caught up. The only train currently shown on Trenitalia between Verona and Venice is the EC from Munich. There are trains, they just aren't shown yet. The Bahn shows the CNL night train as well.

Just to second Lee's recommendation: if you want to travel by train over Christmas/New Year then get your tickets now. And reservations with them. The Sparpreistickets sell really fast and trains fill to capacity on many days. BTDT

On only one occasion have I been on an express train that was SRO. That was an ICE from FRA to Karlsruhe on Dec. 26, a holiday in Germany. Every seat was occupied, but less than half were reserved. Had I known, I could have reserved a seat when I bought the ticket at the counter at the Fernbahnhof in FRA. If you do purchase a ticket online in advance (either standard fare or Sparpreis}, you can reserve a seat at the same time for only €2,50 (in 2nd cl)
