I bought my tickets for two different routes from the Bahn.de website. I didn't pick seats at the time, because I purchased each route twice, at their recommendation (since we have 6, it would be considered a group purchase). Can I make reservations for our seats after-the-fact by calling them? Also, I added our two girls who are under six to the itinerary but the tickets only shows the adults and youth (6-14). Will this mean our girls can't get seats?
I think you need to call them back and have them clarify everything.
As I understand it, a group discount (6 and up), for tickets purchased up to one hour before travel time, is 50% off standard fare. So, for 6, you would pay 3 standard fares. However, with 2 adult, 2 youth (6-14) and 2 children under 6, you would only pay 3 standard fares, anyway, so the 50% discount is irrelavant. This is for regional and express trains.
There is a Gruppe & Spar 70 offer (70% off) for tickets purchased 14 days in advance. This discount is only valid for travel on the Fernverkehr (ICE/IC/EC), not on regional trains. Is this what you were trying to book? I don't think you can book that online.
As for the tickets not showing the two under 6 children, I found this on the Bahn website, "Kinder unter 6 Jahren reisen immer kostenlos und ohne Fahrkarte."
Children under 6 year always travel for free and without a ticket.
There is a family reservation offer of €8 (€4 if reserv made at time of booking). That is valid for up to five travelers.
Thanks! My tickets are already purchased. I found I can still do my reservations on-line for up to 5 for the 8 euros, even after the fact. I guess we will just have to decide if we want to get the 6th seat for the 2 year old or have her share seats.
Ops, that wasn't correct. Children under 15 are half price alone, but free when traveling with their parents or grandparents, so 2 parent, 2 @ 6-14, and 2 <6 would only take two standard fares.
