We are leaving for a Viking River Cruise next week. We fly from Dallas to Washington, DC on United Airlines. Then we have a 4 hour layover before proceeding on Swiss Air to Zurich. My question is: Will we need to get our luggage in DC and check them again with Swiss Air or will United transfer them to Swiss Air in DC for the rest of the journey? We usually have had nonstop flights, and I cannot remember how this works. Thanks.

Since it is one ticket you should be OK. Just double check at checkin that your luggage is tagged for Zurich. They should do that automatically -- But. -- check it.
