On our trip to the UK, we will be gone about 10 days, which could mean 2 bags a piece (husband and I). If we travel by train, is there room for this much luggage? Will we need to travel first class? Thanks, Cindy
Thank you so much for your replies. We plan to pack as light as possible.
This website provides an informative overview of train travel in the UK. Huge bags, those that can't be lifted or fit above your seats will need to be stored at the luggage areas at the end of the train car. All the trains I've ridden throughout the UK have been clean and comfortable. Never paid extra to travel first class. Lovely way to see the UK.
It's worth noting that, on a few lines, there are still guard's vans, where you can safely store your luggage for the whole journey. These are predominately on routes from London to Bristol/Cardiff/Cornwall and London to York/Newcastle/Edinburgh.
No problems. Room in carriage. If bags are smaller, In rack above head. In first class, you can often get a moderate size bag behind your seat.

If it is big you have to hump it to the station, through station, often up and down stairs, up onto the train and put it somewhere, hump it back down, and to your destination. If you have 4 bags between you that's 4 times as much to do all that to. When you do rent the car you have to fit them into small British or European or Asian cars. Travel light. The people you meet tomorrow won't know what you were wearing yesterday unless you tell them.
That is so true, Nigel! One bag for me. I have to look in to these cubes that I read about on Rick's site.
The packing cubes rock, Cindy. Been one bag traveling for years now. Such a pleasure and Nigel is SO right. Have a wonderful time.
