I've gotten conflicting answers all over the internet on this topic. I'm flying from Dulles to Frankfurt and have a short layover before going on to Istanbul. I have one ticket for the journey. Do I need to retrieve my luggage and go through customs and recheck my bag in Frankfurt? Depending on the site, I'm reading that I have to retrieve and recheck but also that I should be able to get my bag checked all the way through.
I don't know who to believe!

One ticket -- bag check through to final stop. Same for immigration -- in Istanbul.
When you check in your bag make sure the bag tag reads Istanbul for its final destination.
We flew through FRA to Munich one one ticket in June. Our bags were checked all the way to Munich. We did have to go through immigration in Frankfurt, but not security.
A women who checked in for the same exact flight (2 layovers) was not allowed to check her luggage all the way through due to a computer issue. In FRA, she had to go through immigration, collect her bags, check back in, and go through security. She barely made her connection.
When you check in, ask specifically for your bags to be checked all the way to IST. If they are unable to for some reason, ask for a supervisor.
