Hi,
We are traveling a lot by train through Europe. Where does our baggage go when we board the train? Do we keep it with us?
Thanks!

Cable combination locks are a must. Would not travel without one.
Two possible places... Keep it with you, if it is small enough to put on the racks above the seats, or put it on the larger racks at the doors to each coach. We travel really light and our Rick Steve's convertable bags fit on the above-the-seat racks.
.... also there is some space between the seat backs for tall and and some what larger bags. We always make of point to use a cable lock to attach the bags to the overhead rack or to something in the luggage storage area.
You don't need any locks and cables when you are travelling in Switzerland. It is also safe travelling between Switzerland and France. Plenty of room for luggage. And it would be very difficult for someone to grab a piece of luggage (even a smallish bag is quite heavy) and then run in the narrow walkway. Darn near impossible, I can't imagine it. Don't scare yourself silly before you go.
During our 8 weeks travel through 8 countries we found that the luggage racks were at the end of the rail car near a door. Our 21" Roll Aboards were heavy; therefore, we did not want to lift them above our heads in the overhead racks.
We did not want to worry about our luggage during the trip when were were busy so we secured them with our cable locks to the luggage racks.
Inexpensive security for peace of mind.
