baggage lockers in Nice

Travelers in Nice in 2000 had an awful experience at the train station when they left their baggage in lockers between trains. It seems they locked the baggage room at 10pm,stated in a small, hardly legible sign outside the room.Tourists, like ourselves, returned from dinner on a summer evening after that time, prepared to remove their luggage for the 11pm or midnight train and found it locked and the ticketmaster refusing to open it,despite the fact that dozens of passengers needed their baggage. I reacted with indignation and anger and threatened to call the French Ministry of Tourism and describe our plight in a letter to the NYTimes. Obviously he wanted a bribe, but nevertheless opened the baggage room (scowling)for us and one other couple, but not for dozens of chinese tourists and others who needed to board the midnight train. This unpleasant experience ruined our stay in Nice-but hopefully has been corrected.lorraine w,portland,or.

So why exactly are you telling us this 9 years later? I am astonished that you say "Obviously, he wanted a bribe" he, being the station master, when "obviously" you should have read the sign informing you the baggage room closed at 10:00 pm. In all my years of travelling in France I have never encountered anyone who "wanted a bribe", a tip, yes, but not bribe. So 9 years later this still rankles? And it "ruined" your stay in Nice? Pity.
