BA Strike Information

Transportation: British Airways (BA) cabin crew to strike March 20-22 and March 27-30. Expect severe flight disruptions network-wide, esp. in UK. Consider alternate airline.
This alert affects United Kingdom.
This alert began 12 Mar 2010 14:03 GMT and is scheduled to expire 31 Mar 2010 23:59 GMT.
Event: British Airways cabin crew strike
Location: Network-wide, particularly in the UK
Time Frame: March 20-22 and March 27-30
Impact: Severe flight disruptions
Overview
Unite, the union representing more than 10,000 British Airways (BA) cabin crew, announced its members will strike March 20-22 and March 27-30. At the same time, Unite is balloting its members on a new labor contract offered by BA management. If members approve of the plan, the strikes will likely be called off; however, approval is unlikely.

Expect London Heathrow (LHR) to be most heavily affected; BA promised that the London City Airport (LCY) would not experience any cancellations. Long-haul flights, especially those from abroad to the UK will most likely be less affected than domestic and European flights, but could still experience significant delays and cancellations. BA will replace some of the cabin crew with contract personnel; staffing long-haul flights will get priority. No flights operated by codeshare partners will be affected by the BA strike.

Good news...for my wife and I, anyway. we saw a report on the TV that British Airways cabin crews were going on strike March 20th for about a week. We have reservations from Washington to London on the 24th, so we were very upset. It looks, however, like we're safe.....for the moment.

arrival in London via AA of course, no problem.many concerned about upcoming strike in city Departure on 24MAR[2nd day of strike] showed some cancelled BA flights, others covered adequately by charter and other airlines. BA rebooked us on Luft. via frankfort and arrived 1/2 hr earlier in Roma. London heathrow terminal moving well, not crowded or jammed w stranded passengers. arrived 3 hrs early in case. BA had previously confirmed flt. change so from my vantage point, BA sevices working fairly well. other travelers confirm other airports similar state- GOOD LUCK!
