BA flight crews 20 days strikes starting next week

This just in:

See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10105863.stm

in which the BBC states

The British Airways cabin crew union, Unite, has announced fresh strike dates in its long-running dispute with the airline.

Cabin crew will walk out for four separate five-day strikes in May and June.

The first strike will begin on 18 May, ending on 22 May, with the three further strikes beginning on 24 May, 30 May and 5 June.

Thank goodness I made the 1 day window, my flight out is from Boston to London on Sunday May 23! Now I just need the volcano to cooperate and not affect my plans.
Of course they are also striking on June 6 when I am supposed to come home, but a few extra days in Madrid wouldn't be the end of the world as far as I am concerned. I just want to get there!

So my question is this: I have a flight leaving Newark for LHR on the evening of the 29th, so that flight is ok, but I'm worried about the timing of my connecting flight from LHR to Munich.

Is my best bet probably to call them at 12:01 GMT on the first date they announce the flights on the 30th of May and ask for a transfer to Lufthansa or BMI (other operators of LHR -> MUC flights), or should I just book one in a week if/once the strike starts and possibly eat the $230?

Not sure if I would bet any flight is safe. If I were a crew member I would not want to be stuck on the other side of the Atlantic for 5 days.

Would love everyone's suggestions...I'm so frustrated!!

I have a flight from WAS to PRG on BA on May 28, then returning from FRA on June 6....both of these are during the strike windows.

I have to be there during these dates to attend a wedding so the "rebook within 355 days" doesn't really work for me.

Will they be able to move me over to a Luftansa or Delta flight, or do I need to be thinking about purchasing a back-up flight?

Thanks!

Erin,

The flights through Heatrow are the ones being affected. Last strike 70% of the passenger segments were flown. The 30% that were cancelled all (or nearly all) were from Heathrow. They start announcing tommorrow afternoon the cancelled flights. This of course is subject to constant change.

Here's a link to BA's longhaul schedule for the first set of strike dates:

Sometimes I think I'm blowing it by not being more loyal to a particular airline. My miles don't add up as nicely because I choose my flights based on price and most convenient schedule for the particular route I'm flying.

Then BA goes on strike and reminds me why it's not a good idea to get too attached to one airline.

So the flight I'm taking on May 28 hasn't been announced yet (too soon)-- but the same flight, one week earlier, has been canceled already.

Anyone know from previous strikes if that means mine will definitely be canceled as well?
