BA Cityflyer and London City Airport

I'm investigating flights from Amsterdam to Edinburgh. One way direct flights are horrifically expensive--$700! On the BA Cityflyer I can do it for around $175. It's regional jets, but heck I fly those routinely out of Madison so nothing new there.

Has anyone flown this airline into London City Airport? It's only has one runway, so I'm wondering if that's been problematic. I'm searching the website to see if there are any weird luggage rules. I am also wondering if they valet larger bags or if you have to check them.

Yes, but it looks like one flight a day and its in the evening. I am joining others and catching a train further north together.

I agree you should be able to fly direct more cheaply. However, the airline is British Airways and the airport, mainly used by business people and under the radar of most tourists, has a good reputation for ease of use and efficiency.

I've flown to or from London City more than a dozen times and have also used BA Cityflyer. My most recent trip via LCY was last April on BA Cityflyer from AMS to LCY. The BA Cityflyer plane was not particularly small (although I did check my bag). I think I was through immigration and at the baggage carousel in about 10 minutes (and I don't recall waiting for my bag).

London City has always been my preferred airport in London. It is very small. You don't typically find yourself circling (like you do sometimes at Heathrow) waiting to land because there are so many other flights. It is the kind of airport where they bring stairs to the plane. I've never spent more than 10 minutes waiting to get through security. HOWEVER, earlier this year (after the underpants bomber) there were stories of horrible waits going through security at LCY on some of the frequent flyer websites. I haven't checked recently to see if they have fixed things so you might want to check flyertalk.com or even the TripAdvisor London Forum to see if there are any current issues.
