My husband and I will be in Bayeux on 10/10/13 after a tour of the beaches. We want make a day trip to MSM the following day. Is there local bus service available? We would rather not drive but would do so in a pinch.

There is no local bus service to MSM. However, the Churchill Hotel in Bayeux offers a daytrip by private bus.

We drove that route this summer, including driving to the invasion sites. MSM is a spectacular destination. I hope you can spend the night on the island itself. If you do so, take only a small overnight backpack with you as there is a lot of walking and steps. A great timetable is to arrive about 4 and leave by 10 the next morning. You miss the tour groups with those times. If it happens that you need to drive, you can rent a car in Bayeux or in Caen. The driving is very easy. It is quite rural with good roads. A GPS is helpful, but a good map will be enough to get you there. I know you prefer not to drive, but I thought I'd let you know that it's an easy area for driving. Enjoy your trip.
