Avoid Condor

I recently returned from a rt pdx/fco on Condor. Never again! Outbound there was to be a 9 hour layover in fra. 2 extra hours of wait time were added on, with no information as to why or when we could expect to get underway.

The wheelchair I ordered never materialized. There was no elevator or escalator. so I had to make my way down stairs, then stand for another 15 minutes or so until a bus came. Access to the plane was via another long stairway.
On the return trip, we had another unexpected 2 hour delay in fra. This time they did tell us that there was a mechanical problem and that they were working on it. During a large part of the time we were breathing exhaust fumes.
To be fair, the service was fine and the food, quite acceptable.
Options from pdx to Rome are limited (I have family there), but I’ll never do Condor again.

I’m genuinely sorry you had a bad experience, but it’s a discount airline, you get what you pay for. And the same, or worse, can happen on any other airline. These “I’ll never fly X airline again!” posts, well, perhaps not but the airline couldn’t care less, and other travelers are still likely to go with whatever is cheapest.

Were you more than 3 hours later than your scheduled arrival time at your final destinations? If so, you may be due compensation under European law.

I'm sorry you experienced delays and poor service. And you are perfectly within your rights to refuse to use that airline again, or to describe your experience to anyone you please. I might even take your experience into consideration if I ever considered a flight into and out of your airports on Condor. What I do object to is anyone telling me who I should or should not fly with, based on one person's experience. You might consider modifying the language of your title.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Condor's "accommodation" of your mobility needs is quite unacceptable. Have you called Condor to discuss these issues with them?

Sorry to hear of your experience with Condor.
On the other hand; we’ve flown Condor several times and have never had a bad experience. Condor is our airline of choice for Seattle departures to Europe.

In 1988, I flew RT to Germany (FRA) on Condor, which then, I think, was a division of Lufthansa. No problem. I was completely satisfied with the experience.

Later, I guess, they were bought by Thomas Cook, a British travel company, and when Cook went under, they were bought by someone else, who, as I understand, is only interested in making money, at the expense of customer satisfaction. I've not heard anything good about them recently.

They are not what they used to be.

I have flown with Condor twice and had no trouble. I did not attempt to connect in Frankfurt, though, and I wouldn't book a ticket with a 9-hour layover, no matter what airline I'm flying with.
Re: the wheelchair, I should think the airport itself would have accommodated you, even if the airline didn't order a wheelchair in advance for you. Here's the info from the PDX website: https://www.flypdx.com/Accessibility/Mobility
Better luck next time!

I am absolutely certain that the delays were Condor's fault ... well unless you were going to Europe where the flight control processes that make the one in the US look acceptable. Lots of points of view this was just the first that popped up https://simpleflying.com/another-summer-mess-ryanair-warning-air-traffic-chaos-2026/ But that doesnt excuse not keeping you informed.

If you requested a wheel chair they should have never let you board a flight to an airport with not elevators. Wait, you are saying you got off the plane on the tarmac and there was no elevator at the plane to the tarmac? Never thought about that. Yes, could be a problem. Did you tell the flight crew they needed to get someone to carry you? I think they would have been responsible to do that or something. You should have just sat on the plane till they found a solution.

Okay, Alberto Idiota says:
The exact process for a tarmac deplaning follows these steps: Wait for assistance: Stay in your seat. Ground crew need time to position the specialized equipment and safely maneuver the narrow aisle wheelchair down to your row. Transfer to the aisle chair: Staff will assist you in transferring from your regular seat into an aisle wheelchair, which is narrow enough to roll down the airplane's central walkway. Exit the aircraft: Instead of walking down the standard rolling stairs, you will be moved using one of two methods: Ambulift: A specialized scissor-lift truck drives up to the aircraft door. The aisle chair is rolled into the lift, which is then lowered directly to the tarmac level. Stair-climbing chair: If an Ambulift is not available, trained staff will transfer you into a specialized stair-climbing wheelchair (or carry the aisle chair) to safely navigate the portable stairs. Reunion with your personal chair: Once you reach the bottom of the stairs and are safely on the tarmac, you will be transferred into your own wheelchair (if it was brought down for you) or an airport wheelchair to be driven to the terminal.

I just returned from a trip to Europe. I used Condor for both outbound and inbound flights, my first experience with this airline.

Outbound flight:

I had to rebook my flight due to a change in my plans. Condor.com repeatedly crashed when I tried to rebook using the site. I ended up using their WhatsApp channel for rebooking. I had to try multiple times on WhatsApp since the wait times were several hours long and I would miss the live person when he/she finally came on line. The rep who did the rebooking was confused between the Euro and the $ and also misquoted the price initially.

The legroom in Economy was not enough for me (6' tall). I could not sleep on the flight and ended up with several aches and pains.
I decided to upgrade to Premium Economy for my inbound flight.

Inbound flights:

Again, Condor.com crashed when I tried to upgrade using the site. When I contacted a rep through WhatsApp (s)he informed my that my upgrade attempt through the site was successful though the final message from the site was 'Internal Error' and there was no email saying that I got the upgrade. I had to reconnect on the WhatsApp channel three times, each time with a 30 minute wait, because the rep would disconnect before I could post follow up questions about costs.

The legroom in Premium Economy was good for me (6' tall). I slept well on the flight but still ended up with back and glutes aches because the Premium seat was just as hard as in Economy, despite using the pillow and blanket as cushions!

A fragile Condor.com made me worry about how well Condor maintains its planes. When I factor in the effort and frustration with rebooking and upgrade operations, and the extra I paid for the upgrade, I doubt Condor is cheaper than non-budget airlines.

I will not fly Condor ever again, no matter how cheap the initial price looks!

Alaska Air now has Seattle-Rome direct service, and with 10 or more flight from PDX to SEA per day, your problem with Condor should be a thing of the past

The wheelchair I ordered never materialized. There was no elevator...

What airport has no elevator between levels?

Ugh. I am sorry. I have seen the special equipment for wheelchair passengers not show up when it’s time to deplane out on the tarmac to a bus. I’d be angry too.
