We want to do a week in Avignon and a week in Venice. Is it easier to fly Nice-Venice or take the train Nice-Paris-Venice?

EasyJet has flights from Lyon to Venice 2-3 times per week. You can take the train from Avignon to Venice via Nice but it takes about 11 hours.

I think the easiest & cheapest way to do this would be to take the TGV from Avignon to Lyon - the TGV goes right to the airport - and then fly Easyjet direct from Lyon to Venice.
