In January 2009 I purchased British Airways airfare from Seattle to London (RT) for end Oct'09 trip for $497 (tax included) per person, which I thought was a really good deal. I have not seen this price again since.
I'm planning for a family trip to Prague and Berlin (open jaw flight). Anyone know the average airfare cost for this itinerary for Oct trip?
Last June and July, BA did have some good prices for October travel this fall (2010). This was soon after the double whammy of the volcano and the strikes, and I think they were trying to lure customers back and/or get their cash flow back up. Even then, the "low" fares were around $800 for destinations on the Continent, as I recall. I think that was an unusual circumstance and the chaos that caused it hopefully won't occur again!
Wow--I fly out of Seattle and haven't seen that kind of airfare since the SAS winter sale in 2005. I think you got really lucky. It's definitely worth signing up for all the alerts, airline emails, etc, but don't count on low airfares, especially next year, which all the travel experts are saying will be more expensive than usual. And, Berlin and Prague are going to be more expensive than London anyway--you're going to need a connecting flight. For comparison, I checked like crazy and could not find a SEA-Paris flight for less than $1200 in Oct. 2009 (that was the most I've ever paid to Paris). This October I went to Spain and was thrilled to find a fare for $980. I'm going to Croatia this spring and will be very happy if I find a fare under $1500. Good luck.
Thanks, everyone for the info.
I will definetely sign up for the price alerts.
