Autoeurope car location...questions !

Hi !

I've read many good things about renting with Auoto Europe. We want to rent 2 cars for pour our Portugal and Spain trip this summer (one in each country).

We are frome Canada so at first i've search for quotes via the canadian website. But I can see that we can have better price and more locators from european website of Autoeurope. Questions:

1) Can we use any autoerurope website or we have too book through our country website ?

2) We want to use our redit card for insurance (Capital one costco) anyone have advices against this ?

Thanks !

We have always relied on our cc insurance when renting cars in Europe. We have actually needed to file claims 4 times (since 1984) for minor damage and have had no problems. There is one caveat. Call
the phone # for your card and ask the rep exactly what the coverage is. There are slews of Visa cards; and, even many different Cap One Visa cards. Get clear on what yours covers. Two pitfalls I know of are deductibles and excluded items, like glass and tires. This applies to insurance purchased from the car rental co., as well.
Sorry, can't help with #1.

As to #1, not that I've ever done it, but I would expect that if you are able to book and confirm your reservation through AE's European web site, you should be fine. You'd get a voucher by email and that's what you'd present when you pick up your car. I've always used the US AE web site (AE is headquartered down the road from me, so I had always assumed there was just one web site running through that office).
As to #2, for 30 years I've always used my CC for insurance ... until my reservation for next week. There are loads of comments on this forum both for and against doing so.

Bucephale

I am Canadian. I recently rented a car from AutoEurope for Hawaii! I found that the Canadian AE site had the best price compared to all the others e.g. Direct, Costco, Discount Hawaii etc. Go figure. I paid, got a voucher and picked up car from Budget at KOA airport. No issues.

I also used credit card for CDW protection. However, i found that US car rental only has the state minimum third party liability coverage. In Hawaii that is only $15,000. So I upgraded my ICBC coverage in BC to Roadstar for CAD$15 and got $1 million third party coverage. The Roadstar package also covers damage and theft so with the credit card, i was double covered. The point is that there are cheaper options than paying the car rental coverages. You should check to see what the minimum coverage is for the countries you visit.

Note: I was so skeptical of the low AE rental price that i called and booked directly with the agent using the AE toll-free number. The agent can answer your questions and will email you confirmation while on the phone.
