Autoeurope

I find myself recommending Autoeurope frequently to folks here on the forum. I think their service is great. I have expressed that most often their prices are less than booking direct. I just wanted to say that I still highly recommend Autoeurope, but in UK and Republic of Ireland, the prices I got were quite high so I did some other checking and did find better pricing. In England, I used Arnold Clark which I highly recommend. In Republic of Ireland, I found great pricing with the Dublin Airport Hertz, and because I am a Hertz member, I can drive into Northern Ireland at no extra charge.

Because I shared quite a few times that Autoeurope's prices were lower, I wanted to share this information.

Arnold Clark (also trades as Celtic Legend) is a Scottish company, it has a good reputation but coverage in England thins out rapidly as you head south, they actually have more branches in Scotland than England with only Heathrow and an obscure suburb for London. So whilst they may be good they may not be around where you need them.

Jules, thanks for pointing that out. I found the same thing. You know how much I like Arnold Clark. While they don't have as many locations as other car rental agencies, it's worth a little inconvenience to rent from them.

For example, in 2024, I spent six weeks in England. Arnold Clark did not have a location in Cornwall, so I went with Europecar, and it was not a good experience. They tried to upsell everything, wanted me to pay more, and tried to convince me that I would need a more expensive car to get through the single-track roads in Cornwall and Devon. It was ridiculous.

And then they told me to just drop off the car and leave the key in it inside the lot, but when I got there at the appointed time, there was no one there and the gate was locked. I sat there and waited for about 15 minutes before someone finally showed up.

Arnold Clark, on the other hand, always has someone there to talk to. They make sure that you know all the rules and that you know everything there is to know before you sign any of the documents. They are so helpful, and they've upgraded me a couple of times at no extra charge. Even when I dinged the car, they were super polite and helpful and talked me through what I needed to do. They gave me all the paperwork I needed so I could get reimbursed for the deductible by my credit card company.

I have found in the past that using AutoEurope’s European website (Autoeurope.eu) you’ll occasionally find lower prices than the US website.
