Autobahn 21 rolling backpack

Has anyone taken the Rick Steve's Autobahn 21 rolling backpack on Ryan air? The specks are 1 inch bigger than their guidelines.

You'll be okay with a 21" roller. Where some of the budget air carriers (EasyJet) get you is with handbags, laptops, etc. When they say one carry on, they mean no hand bags, backpacks or anything else. Just don't pack your bag very tight to allow room to offload everything into the rolling bag. Just be sure to carry some change for the coin operated rest room door.

Thanks David, I did not want to purchase these bags and not have them work.

Julia - According to the Ryan Air Web site "Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc.) must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage." The dimensions mentioned convert to 19.69" X 15.75" X 7.87". I'm only responding because last spring my daughter flew Ryan Air roundtrip from Dublin to Paris. Going to Paris her bag was fine. On the return trip her bag was to big.

Thanks Joel, The bag I mentioned is 21x14x9, the 9 being the dimension I am worried about. What happened when they said her bag was too big? Julia

55 cm is 21.65", not 19.68" (that's 50 cm). 21.65 is about 21 5/8". 14" x 9" is 46" in circumference. The allowable 40 cm x 20 cm is 47¼" in circumference, so if the bag is soft-sided and not completely full, it should squeeze to fit (my OPEC bag is 13"x 9", and it conforms to the Lufthansa 40 cm x 20 cm sizing frame). However, roller bags are not usually soft sided, so the 9" dimension might not compress to 7 7/8".

Thanks Lee, It is a rolling backpack so I think the sides might be soft. I will look into it further. I see your Rocky Mt Hi status. I just moved to Cleveland from Paonia, CO., in the North Fork Valley. Before that I lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for 20 years. Are you familiar with it? Julia

During a recent trip to Scotland, there was a long line. Of people waiting & ready to board, and a Ryan air rep was going down the line with a collapse able looking up side down bag, slipping it over every carry-on bag double checking the size. They were also carrying a portable credit card processing device that was put to good use if your bag was too big. We saw the same procedure in Manchester during our layover. FYI

I loved my Autobahn 21 rolling backpack but I never used the backpack option. It fit every airline that allowed carryons (some domestic flights don't have the overhead space) if I didn't stuff it full.
