Hi all, we plan to rent a car in September for 4 days, picking up in Dublin downtown (Budget, Lower Drumcondra Rd)and returning in Cork at the airport. On the Auto Europe site, it gives a warning about costs when you return the car to a second city: Certain restrictions may apply when picking up and ping off at different locations, including additional fees. If the one way is permitted, we will contact you to advise of any restrictions and/or applicable fees. A voucher will also be sent for your review. You may cancel your reservation and receive a full refund if done so with three days advanced notice. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this just their way of saying 'it'll definitely cost you more than the price on the website'? I have been warned against driving in Dublin; we will pick up the car on our last morning in Dublin-and plan our escape carefully-then head across to the Cliffs of Moher. All we have to do is make it out!
Why don't you try going directly to the rental site... Budget, Avis, Hertz and get an exact price. I would not rent with that kind of unknown. If you rent directly you also do not have to prepay. I rent all the time and always go to whichever agency has the best price. I also keep checking up till the time I leave as prices change and many times I will do a new booking and save money. Just cancel the first one.
We think Auto Europe is a reputable company and have rented through them several times. Maybe you'd like to telephone them (1-888-223-5555) and ask your question.
All you have to do is check the price dropping and picking up at a single airport, and compare it to the price picking up at one and dropping at the other. The difference is the drop-off fee. If you have booked it that way, the price you got is the price it will be - the drop-off fee is already included in the price.
