auto europe dropoff in Munich

On the last nights of our trip to Europe we wish to save a little and return our car and then taxi to the airpoort for our return flight. Is this a good idea? I do not know of locations where one could dropoff in town for auto Europe. We are staying at K & K hotel.

AutoEurope is a wholesaler and sets you up with rental car companies like Avis & Europecar. Once they inform you which company you'll be renting from you can check their locations. The Munich airport is way out in the country & will cost you a bundle to take a taxi..... take the S-Bahn.

If you want to save some money then drop in the same country as you rented. Since you think taking a taxi to the Munich airport will save you money, I'm guessing you haven't put much time into research as of yet. You might want to just take the trains and save yourself money and headaches.

Several rental agencies operate offices out of the Hauptbahnhof. There's a large parking garage across the street where you can drop off the car. I'm not sure how dropping it off somewhere else and taking a taxi could possibly save you any money, however.

I rent from AutoEurope or Kemwel. You can check their rates online. The surcharge for an airport or train station is at the time of pickup. If you pick your car up at a downtown location, you will not pay extra for a drop off at the airport. Where are you picking your car up? Like previous posters said, as long as you pickup and drop off in the same country, there is no additional charges. Call AutoEurope directly for confirmation and more info. I always lock in my cars by calling. I also make sure my contract states that I can cancel my rental up to the time of pick up. Take a copy of the contract with you. Avis always gets my rates mixed up. PM me for more info. Have a great trip.

Last Christmas we dropped off Hertz at the parking garage across from the train station. As I remember though not paying a lot of attention there were many signs for different rentals companies. I assume that is the main drop point.

I don't understand our obsession with automobiles (in this case taxis). Munich has an excellent system of public transportation. Up to five people can go to the airport using a Partner Gesamtnetz Tageskarte (all day pass for the entire MVV network) for 20€, with only one change of trains if going from K & K. I haven't checked in a long time, but when I did, a taxi from downtown to the airport cost over 50€.
