We will be traveling on Austrian Air from Frankfurt to Budapest via Vienna. Will I be able to take a carryon as well as camera bag on the plane? It is not clear on their website if it is limited to ONLY one bag. I will need to factor the additional cost of checking bags if that is the case. Thanks for you help,
Mike
Austrian Air is part of the Star Alliance, so it's more like Lufthansa than that awful Ryan Air.
Have flown Austrian numerous times. European airlines generally are not as strict with carry-ons as US airlines can be. I highly doubt anyone would think twice about you having a camera bag in addition to a carry on. I would just get on the plane and not worry about it.
Thank you Emily and George, this was very helpful.
It's been my impression and I've seen it in person that European airlines are more strict than U.S. carriers. For example, Ryan Air and Easy Jet are very strict regarding their baggage rules and regulations.
Would Austrian Air be considered on the same level as Ryan Air (nickel and dime you for everything) or more on the level of Lufthansa or United?
I am sure that Austrian Airlines would be insulted to be put into the same category as Ryan Air or Easy Jet. Yes, those discount airlines take carry-on baggage very seriously as it is their bread and butter. A normal airline, like Austrian, doesn't fuss over this sort of thing and I have NEVER had them weigh carry-ons. Ryan Air and Easy Jet should not be considered typical of European carriers.
I am glad to hear that Emily, in today's world it's becoming harder to tell which airlines charge for everything and which airlines are more professional. We are looking forward to our trip and flying on Austrian Air, it will be our first time on a De Havilland Dash 8.
I cannot imagine this will cause a stir with Austrian Airlines. I have flown them numerous times.
