thinking of taking the railjet form Zurich to Innsbruck. i get a cost of about 50 Euros for a ticket, but how much extra is the sear reservation? Or is it included in that price? thanks, Elaine
If you go to the Austrian Rail website (www.oebb.at) and put in Zurich to Innsbruck, you'll find online advance purchase tickets for Railjet as low as €19 pP. When you go to fill out the form, it has "no reservation" as an option, so I would assume the reservation costs extra.
ETA: I saw on another page of the ÖBB website the statement¹ that for international tickets, the reservation (at least for the part starting in Austria) is free. And, strangely, when I went over to the English language side, the lowest fare I saw was €29. Not sure it was for the same date, though.
1 Für internationale Tickets sind nur Sitzplatz-Reservierungen für Teilstrecken welche in Österreich beginnen, gemäß den oben angeführten Bedingungen kostenfrei.
I think reservations are optional--but...travel is for summer, high season, family of 6--I do not think I want to get on a train without reservations. We are then going from Innsbruck to Verona, so nice to know that reservations might be free then.
I think the train from Zürich to Innsbruck is an Austrian EC (ÖEC). Some of the trains going from Innsbruck to Verona will be German ECs. German Rail, at least on their website, charges €2,50 for the seat reservation. I was astounded when I read that part above about reservations being costfree.
Let me know.
as of June 30, Zurich-Innsbruck will be railjet. All of the direct trains are becoming railjet. I have no issues paying 2-3 Euros for a seat reservation--I was hoping it was not 5+ Euros!
I am traveling from Paris to Innsbruck via Zurich. Rick Steves rail helpline folks told me that I do not need to make a reservation for the Zurich to Innsbruck Railjet train but raileurope's website says it is required. Now I'm confused. If we make a reservation for the Zurich to Innsbruck train and decide to take a later train that day, can we do so?
