The Austria Rail Website look great but is far from user friendly.
For anyone that has used it, if I reserve a seat--which they choose--is there a way to change it before I but a ticket or for that matter after I but a ticket. The website offers cheaper fares than anyone else including Trainline.
For 37 Euros I can go from Innsbruck to Venice in First Class with a seat reservation.
I wonder how many responses I'll get about how second class is fine and no one needs to sit in first class?
I'm not sure about your seat reservation question but regarding your 1st class vs 2nd class, no judgement here! We did this for our travel from Vienna to Strasbourg and it was very much worth the extra cost for us. Besides, 37 Euros? Who wouldn't take that ticket?
You can enter preferences and the computer should do it's best to match those. When booking well ahead, I think you'd likely get what you request, but they're not showing it to you in the shopping cart, as they do for domestic routes. Same deal if purchased through DB. I don't know about official changes after purchase, but you know that you can always sit in any unused seat.
Hey Frank, I was so happy to see this post. I was struggling with making a purchase earlier this evening and finally gave up and decided to try again tomorrow. Nice to know I am not the only one that doesn't find this site that intuitive!!
The old OEBB site used to be great. They changed it a few months ago to be "mobile-friendly". It may be that, but it's not very computer-friendly now!
Agree!!! The new site is "prettier" but ... If you aren't travelling within a few days of the current date, hard to use.
I am in the process of purchasing my tickets. I have selected the "extra" seat reservation and the price change is reflected in the shopping cart total. My next step is to PAY, but, I haven't had a chance to select my seats yet. Do I not get to select seats until after I pay, or do I not get an option to select seats at all?
EDIT: Just reread this thread and it appears the reservation is automatically system-selected. UGH!! Now I feel less inclined to pay for the reservation. I assume it is not required since it was included as an "Extra".
Elaine, there is a small text link to at least choose seating preferences before entering cc info. It won't really jump out at you.
