atlanta, georgia airport

I have 4 french college students with very limited English skills and flying experience. They are travelling to Tucson Arizona (where I live) for language immersion.

They will be travelling from Stuttgart, Germany to Atlanta, then Atlanta direct to Tucson.

Can you assist me with how to explain what to expect at customs and how to find their domestic flight on Delta. Any tidbits would be welcomed!!!

Thank you, Gracias, Merci

OK, here is my best attempt

  1. As you get off the plane just follow the crowds to immigration.. plan to walk a LONG way :) Then make sure they get in the Visitors line (generally that moves faster)

  2. Once thorough immigration they will see escalators leading down to baggage claim. Baggage is just going round and round and round down there and the city and flight number is displayed on screens around the area and over the correct carousel.

  3. Grab the luggage. There are free carts if you need them (the last free things we have in Atlanta)

  4. Walk through customs. I am assuming they have nothing to declare. They should have the form from the plane.

  5. Return luggage to airline. There will be agents there to help them put the luggage back on the correct "belt" If they bought any duty free liquids in Stuttgart they MUST go in the checked luggage now.

  6. Line up to go through the TSA screening. Yes, the exact same thing they did in Stuttgart.

  7. Once through the screening they will see banks of TV type monitors that show them the flights in alphabetical order. Find thier gate.

  8. Go down the escaltor to the train. They will be in terminal E. They will probably go to A, or B. So just stay on until they see the correct letter. Just in case the order is E (where they got on) D, C, B, A, T (Yes T comes before A in the Atlanta airport)

  9. When they get to the correc letter, get off and take escaltor back up and look for the gate number

Good luck!

Sorry for the typos...

That's what I get for playing on the internet without wearing my glasses! :)

AWESOME walk-though of international arrivals, Carol! Make sure you warn them that the airport is VERY busy -- busiest one in the world. If they're coming in the summer, it's packed full of people.

The "T" Terminal is connected directly to the main airport "drop-off" terminal, so it likely stands for "T"erminal. All the other terminals (A through E) are connected by the underground trams and walkways.

Be sure to have them check their luggage through to Tucson when they check in at Stuttgart.

The students will be here next week.

I did warn them about the southern dialect and that is was a different english.

My grandmother was from the south and I even have hard time.

Thanks again.

What Southern dialect? The South is the only region in the United States where the natives do not speak with an accent.
