Does anyone know how big the planes are from Athens to Crete?
I am not real keen on small planes. May consider the fast ferry that I
heard is 4.5hrs. Any help on either of these topics appreciated.
Who are you considering flying with? Maybe a quick hit on their website will give you an idea of Bird size?
Why aren't you so keen on Baby Birds?
The Ferry journey would be a beautiful ride, indeed!
Both Aegean Air and Olympic fly medium size planes on that route (737 or Airbus equivalent) you would need to be flying to a small island to get turboprop or like plane.
We flew Olympic Arilines in 2007 on this route. I forget the exact model of plane, but it was about the size of a Boeing 737.
A comment regarding the ferry. Ferries are great for 2-3 hours or less, beyond that, they hold no attraction for me. Ferries in Greece are good utilitarian travel, not a cruise ship. They can be rough, smoky, uncomfortable, sort of romantic in that "dive bar" sort of way. There are some small ferries when rode on a sunny clear day are a joy, but for any lengthy trip (4+ hours) consider flying.
We flew with Aegean Air about five years ago and the plane was great- mid- size, very like the Airbus and not so different than the planes I've flown to Arizona on US Airways! Also, I remember the trip being barely an hour.
