Athens as a Discount Air Travel Center?

I understand from a few year old RS DVD that Athens is the hot spot discount air travel center of the world. One can get well discounted tickets there and apply them quickly. Don't know if that's still true, or what the risk would be. Comments?

Perhaps RS discusses this in his updated city guide of the 2009 version of Athens.

The internet is now the discounted air travel center.

Considering Rick still uses a travel agent to book his airline tickets, I doubt he's really an expert on air travel. Muuch of the stuff on his older shows is outdated.

I may know soon enough. I'll be driving down to Sacramento today, and have the book reserved.

I also have plenty of time to travel, if needed.

I went back and listened to the DVD, 25 min into it. Syntagma Square with bucket (discount) shops just outside it. Apparently, they aren't unique to just Athens. He thought they were trusty worthy and offered good deals. They can be called from the USA (or elsewhere), and you can use a credit card.

I have his 2009 book now on Athens. There are several references in the book, but none dealing with discount tickets there. This is worth some feedback to the guide book people. I'll be back if they respond.
