We are looking to take the overnight train from Venice to Paris and would prefer to stay in a double cabin by ourselves. I can find a fee on top of the rail pass for that accomodation and they call it 1st class. My question is can you just pay that charge on top of a 2nd class rail pass or must you have a 1st class pass?
You CAN reserve a two-bed sleeper with your 2nd class pass. See here: http://tinyurl.com/648w3r.
Thank you, that has been the hardest info to find so far.
I have spoken with Rail Europe and another rail agency and they have both said that on top of the $128 reservation per person I will be charged an upcharge to step up to 1st class when I am there.
Has anyone experienced this or know how much it might be?
