Arriving in Paris - at night....

My husband and I are taking a train that arrives at Paris Gare de Lyon station at 10pm. To get to our hotel (in Rue Cler neighborhood) we must take 2 different local metro lines. I am worried that when we arrive in Paris there will not be a way to buy a metro ticket at 10pm....are there ticket machines? Also, should I be worried about safety in the metro stations late at night? Or walking from the station to the hotel?

Yes, there are machines at all the stations tho not at all stops AND yes, you are safer in Paris than in Fort Worth!

If you don't flash money around and if you use tiny locks on the zippers on your packs or wheeled bags, you'll be perfectly safe at night on the Metro and on the street. (Observe the same common sense rules during the day, especially when the Metro is crowded.)

10pm is still early in Paris. Most people go home from work between 7 and 8 - and dinner usually begins at 9pm if you are eating out. You will find many people still out and about.

The Metro is open until 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends. Gare Lyon is a large station and there will be assistance to help with tickets if need be.

Oooooohhh, I'm so jealous. Hubby and I arrived in Paris at night, but I think it was a different train station. Anyway, we decided to catch a taxi to our hotel in Rue Cler -- and I highly recommend that. The cost was quite reasonable, and the experience unbeatable! I will never, ever forget my first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower ablaze in the night sky; it literally took my breath away. The cabbie was wonderful ... the people were wonderful ... the trip was wonderful. Yep, I'm jealous!

I agree - at that time, just take a cab. It will be more than two metro lines, but less in stress and hassle.

How much should I expect to pay for a cab from Gare de Lyon to Rue Cler neighborhood??
