We are planning our 2nd trip to France for fall '08, touring mostly Provence and the Cote d'Azur. We have two choices of non-stop flight destinations-Nice or Lyons. Any recommendation? As well, is Lyon and area worthwhile visiting?
I find the Nice airport very easy to use (4 years ago). I used to fly in and out of it on a regular basis. It is easy to pick up a bus into the center of town, and cheap to take a taxi.
Lyon is wonderful -- or it was for the nearly 2 days we were there back in April 2006. Hubby and I flew into Paris and then took a train to Lyon, then a taxi to the RS-recommended Hotel Globe et Cecil. It was easy walking distance to a vibrant area of town and "old" town. Got caught in the rain, but it was amazing. We happened on a wonderful street market near the river and bought provisions for our train trip to Nice. We definitely want to return to Lyon and spend more time there. Be sure to eat the Salad Lyonnaise when you go ... yummy! And be prepared to see dogs in restaurants!
